SIX-TIME PBA Most Valuable Player award winner June Mar Fajardo has been cleared to return to action for the San Miguel Beermen once the 46th season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) tips off on April 9.
The Cebuano behemoth has been away from the game since February after he suffered a severe injury to his shin during a practice session. None other than San Miguel’s sports director Alfrancis Chua made the announcement during his appearance on “The Chasedown” show.
“He’s okay. We’re expecting him to play next conference or this season,” said Chua. “Doc (George) Canlas said may go signal na siya to play.”
This development is welcome news for the Beermen, which faltered to defend their Philippine Cup championship last year in the bubble in Clark, Pampanga. Even though San Miguel was able to secure the fourth seed in the playoffs, they couldn’t power through both injuries and the Meralco Bolts in the quarterfinal round where they got swept.
Chua said it could have been a different story had the native of Pinamungajan, Cebu been there in the middle.
“Iba siguro pag andun si June Mar. Mabigat kung andun si June Mar,” said Chua.
Chua also disclosed that the Beermen’s other superstar Terrence Romeo is also on track to make a return once the new season kicks off.
“Malaki ang improvement niya,” Chua bared.
Romeo was on track to lead the Beermen’s campaign inside the bubble but the former scoring champion got injured in their second game of the season during a collision with TNT’s Ryan Reyes. The Far Eastern University-product was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder and missed the remainder of the season. (JNP)
