Justin Bieber's Twitter account hacked —Sophos

Hackers allegedly broke into the Twitter account of singer Justin Bieber, sending a less-than-flattering message to his 19 million fans.

Computer security firm Sophos said the tweet was quickly deleted, adding it may have been meant more to embarrass Bieber than anything else.

"19 million my ass. #biebermyballs," read the message, an image of which was posted on Sophos' blog.

It said the attack could have been much worse, had the attackers sent a tweet offering free concert tickets, along with a link leading to malware.

But Sophos also cited reports indicating that the hackers "began to unfollow and block some of the folks that the Canadian singer follows."

It reiterated its advice to Bieber's fans to "please learn something from your idol's misfortune" and always choose a strong, secure password for thir Twitter account.

"And make sure that you are not using it on any other websites, and never share it with anyone else," it added.

It also said they should log in from computers that are properly patched and protected.

"And remember that just because a Twitter account is 'verified,' doesn't necessarily mean you can trust every message that is posted to it," Sophos stressed.

It noted other celebrity Twitter accounts belonging to the likes of Miley Cyrus, Fox News, CNN's Rick Sanchez, Britney Spears and Barack Obama have been hacked in the past.
