Celebrated Filipino golfer Juvic Pagunsan finished with a 68 in the closing round to bag the Gate Way To The Open Mizuno Open on Sunday at the JFE Setonaikai Golf Club in Okayama, Japan.

It was an important win for the 43-year old as aside from bagging the top prize of ¥12,000,000 (P5.2 million), it also earned him a ticket to the prestigious British Open golf tournament on July 11 at the Royal St George's Golf Club in England.

The native of Bacolod City held a three-stroke lead at the start of the final round and kept his foot on the gas pedal, eventually finishing with a 17-under 199 at the close of the tournament that was shorted to just 54 holes because of adverse playing conditions earlier in the week.

Still, the win was not without challenges as Pagunsan had to overcome a rough start that saw him make two bogeys during the first three holes. He later on found his rhythm and hit six birdies to finish three strokes ahead of Ryutaro Nagano, who finished with 66 for a 14-under 202. Nagano bagged ¥6,000,000. (JNP)
