HIGH leaping wingman Renz Palma scored several buckets in crunchtime to lift the Kapatagan Buffalo Braves past the Iligan Archangels, 64-56, in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Mindanao Leg opener, Wednesday at the Ipil Provincial Gymnasium.
The Braves made their move in the third canto, unloading a huge 21-4 run that put them up by 15, 48-33, late in the third. Iligan, however, did not back down and came roaring back to within one, 51-52.
Palma, though, was up to the challenge as he scored a dipsy-doo layup and a three-pointer to put Kapatagan up, 60-53, with 1:03 to go. He finished with 18 points on 7-of-16 shooting, to go with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Jamil Gabawan was the other Brave in double figures with 10 markers and eight boards.
Lee Yu, the former Far Eastern University Tamaraw, led the Archangels with 16 points and eight rebounds while Magic Marata had 13.
On Friday, the Braves will square against Zamboanga City at 1 pm, while the Archangels will face ALZA Alayon at 3 pm.
