Katie Holmes ‘splurges on schooling’

Katie Holmes has enrolled her daughter into a $40,000-a-year private school.

The actress’ six-year-old child Suri will start in first grade at Avenues, in Chelsea, New York City, which is opening this fall. Suri will learn Spanish or Mandarin along with traditional subjects such as reading, writing, science, maths and music. The facility is just a short walk from Katie’s apartment in the city.

“[Katie] has eagerly been telling Suri all about the lunchrooms, basketball courts and different activities Avenues offer,” a source told Life & Style. “Suri’s really excited about it.”

The establishment also boasts a state of the art fitness centre and a rooftop playground.

Suri is also taking gymnastic lessons at Chelsea Piers, who have a partnership with the school.

It was previously reported that Katie wanted Suri to attend an all-girls Catholic facility in New York. There is also speculation the star didn’t want her daughter to enrol in a school run by the Church of Scientology, the religion followed by Suri’s father Tom Cruise.

Avenues is a “world school” and has branches in Europe, Africa, China as well as other cities in the US.
