The Visayas champions KCS Computer Solution-Mandaue will not have their two best players—Finals MVP Ping Exciminiano and Gryann Mendoza—in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Cup National Finals next month after the duo were elevated to the roster of TNT Tropang Giga in the PBA Philippine Cup.
This development leaves a huge hole for KCS head coach Mike Reyes to fill especially with the national finals slated to tip off next month. The team began their preparations this week sans Exciminiano and Mendoza, and possibly even sharpshooter Al Francis Tamsi, who is also with the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters.
Exciminiano and Mendoza were particularly masterful in KCS’ finals upset over the heavily-favored MJAS Zenith-Talisay City Aquastars. Exciminiano had 15 points, five rebounds, an assist, and three steals in the series-clinching Game Three win. The 32-year-old defensive specialist from Olongapo City averaged 13 points, six assists, and three steals for the series.
Mendoza, on the other hand, averaged 11.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals in the Visayas leg.
Reyes said that regardless of this development, they would give it their all in the national finals.
“We will do our best to compete with what we have. We cannot question God’s plan,” said Reyes.
VisMin Cup head of basketball operations Marvin Caro said that they would still be meeting to determine if KCS would be allowed to replace Exciminiano and Mendoza with other players.(JNP)
