Kingad faces former flyweight champ Akhmetov in Winter Warriors II

DANNY Kingad hopes to keep championship dreams alive as he takes on fellow world-rated flyweight Akhmetov in the main event of ONE – “Winter Warriors II” on Dec. 17, 2021 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

The 26-year-old Kingad is currently rated No. 2 behind Demetrious Johnson, while Akhmetov is ranked No. 4.

The winner of the fight should be in a good position to challenge ONE flyweight king Adriano Moraes.

Kingad once challenged for the flyweight belt but lost to Moares via a first round rear-naked choke in 2017.

The 34-year-old Akhmetov already held the flyweight title in 2015 after beating Moraes by split decision. He lost the belt in their rematch after losing by unanimous decision in 2017.

Kingad is 14-2, with his only other loss was against Johnson in the ONE Flyweight Grand Prix finals in 2019. He’s coming off a unanimous decision win over Wei Xie in 2020.

Akhmetov , in the meantime, is 27-2. He won his last three fights against Hao Bin Ma, Reece McLaren and Dae Hwan Kim.

Three other Team Lakay fighters are seeing action in the same card – former bantamweight champion Kevin Belingon, Stephen Loman and undefeated prospect Jhanlo Mark Sangiao.

Belingon (20-8), ranked No. 2 in the bantamweight division, locks horns with Won Il Kwon (10-3).

The 34-year-old Belingon hopes to bounce back after three straight fights—twice to ONE bantamweight king Bibiano Fernandes, both in championship fights, while the other to former UFC fighter John Lineker.

Kwon is a winner of back-to-back contests against Bruno Pucci and Chen Rui. A win over Belingon should catapult him into the bantamweight rankings.

Loman (14-2) makes his much-anticipated ONE debut against dangerous No. 3 rated bantamweight Yusup Saadulaev (20-5-1).

Sangiao (3-0) is also making his ONE debut. He faces Indonesian Paul Lumihi (7-5). / EKA
