KNF Ferraren and Don Bosco Technical Center A are headed for a Group 1 showdown, while Cebu International School boosted its chance of making the semifinal round in the Boys 16 Division of the AboitizLand Football Cup.
KNF DBBH got its fourth win the easy way after SMS Boystown failed to show up for their match at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu on Feb. 1, 2020.
The easy win improves KNF record to 12 points for the No. 1 spot in the group. DBTC A is also undefeated in four games but trails KNF by three goals. Both teams are assured of a semifinal spot and the KNF vs. DBTC A game will only determine the final rankings of the group.
Meanwhile in Group 2, the Cebu International School got itself in the picture for a spot in the knockout round after routing DBTC C, 10-0. CIS, which drew Don Bosco Technical Center-B in its last game, was relentless against DBTC C, 10-0, to jump to third in the standings. Keenan Cergneux needed only four minutes to score his first, while Dominic Lim and Edrigo Unchuan got theirs in the 10th and 14th minutes, respectively for a 3-0 lead. DBTC’s woes wasn’t over as CIS would bank in five more goals before the half-time whistle.
Umi Shimogama laced up his golden boot and got three in the 23rd, 33rd and 42nd minutes, while Cergneux added two more in the 30th and 41st. CIS played cruise control in the second half with Lim adding his second in the 50th and Joha Choi scoring in the 52nd for the 10-rout.
CIS improved to seven points with 2 wins and a draw, trailing undefeated SHS-Ateneo de Cebu A, which nabbed its fourth straight win with a 5-0 rout of Giuseppe. Francis Matugas scored twice, while Christopher Ozawa, John Ruffin and Zachary had one each in the rout. Abellana National School is second in the group with 9 points on a 3-1 record, while DBTC B is fourth with a win and a draw for four points. A win by CIS in its last game and a loss or a draw by ANS will see CIS advance to the knockout stage. (ML WITH PR)
