In the final poster for the upcoming biopic Spencer, Kristen Stewart cuts a tragic figure as the late Princess Diana.

The American actress, 31, will play the People’s Princess in a film tracking the events of Christmas 1991, before her split from Prince Charles, played by Jack Farthing.

“The marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has long since grown cold,” the synopsis reads. “Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate.

“There's eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. But this year, things will be a whole lot different.”

It’s added that Spencer is an “imagining” of what happened during that fateful Christmas, rather than historical fact.

In the poster, the Princess of Wales is seen with her face away from the camera, collapsed in a gold and white wedding dress and appearing upset.

This dress differs from the actual famed gown by The Emmanuels, which Diana wore at her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981.

The real bridal gown became known for its extravagantly long train and thick puffy sleeves, matched with a ruffled collar.

In the new photo for the movie, Diana is seen in a backless dress with intricate bejeweled detailing around her corset and dripping down the skirt.

Joining Stewart and Farthing in the cast are Richard Sammel, Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins, and Sean Harris.

From the initial photos alone, Spencer has become highly anticipated.

This is largely due to Stewart’s uncanny likeness to the Princess, who sadly died in a car crash in 1997.

Discussing the film at the time of the announcement, Stewart said: “Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life.

“It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name – Spencer.

“It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold on to what the name Spencer means to her.”

The movie will make its debut at Venice Film Festival on September 3.

Despite the initial release being only a week away, there is currently no trailer for the film.

Spencer is coming to UK cinemas soon.
