‘Kuya’ Culibao to face Baghdasaryan in UFC 284

FIL-AUSSIE Joshua “Kuya” Culibao returns to the Octagon next month in the undercard of the UFC 284 on Feb. 12, 2023 at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

Culibao looks for his third straight win and takes on Armenian Melsik Baghdasaryan.

The 28-year-old Culibao, born in Australia to Filipino parents, won his last two fights. He beat Chinese Shayilan Nuerdanbieke by a unanimous decision in 2021 and South Korean Seung Woo Choi by a split decision last year.

Culibao is 2-1-1 in the UFC after signing with the world’s biggest MMA organization back in 2020.

Baghdasaryan, a product of UFC’s Contender Series, is currently on a hot streak with seven straight, two in the UFC.

The 30-year-old Baghdasaryan won back-to-back wins in the UFC against Collin Anglin and Bruno Souza. Baghdasaryan is also a pro boxer and a kickboxer.

Culibao is 10-1-1, while Baghdasaryan is 7-1.

The main event features the much-anticipated super fight between UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev (23-1) defending his belt against UFC featherweight titleholder Alexander Volkanovski (25-1), who’s looking for his second division world title.

Makhachev, a protégé of Khabib Nurmagomedov, won the vacant UFC lightweight belt with a second-round triangle choke submission victory over Charles Oliviera last Oct. 22, 2022.

Volkanovski beat Max Holloway by unanimous decision in their trilogy last July 2. (EKA)
