ANOTHER Thailand-based Filipino pug Joel Kwong will attempt to put a dent on young Thai prospect Thattana Luangphon’s unblemished record as both super bantamweights face off on Sept. 5, 2020 at the Workpoint Studio in Bang Phun, Thailand.
Kwong will challenge Luangphon for the latter’s World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council super bantamweight belt.
The 27-year-old Kwong, who is based in Bangkok looks to score an upset over Luangphon, one of Thailand’s hottest prospects, and continue his recent streak.
Kwong started out his career with a 1-9 record. He, however, turned it around with a four-fight winning streak. His latest win was a fifth round technical knockout of old and battle-scarred veteran Julio de la Basez, where he won the interim WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver featherweight belt.
Kwong has also fought elite Thai fighters, the likes of Sriksaket Sor Rungvisai and Sod Kokietgym.
The 23-year-old Luangphon is fresh from a second round knockout of Thailand-based Filipino Jomar Fajardo just on Aug. 1, 2020. His other Filipino victims were Alvin Medura and Matthew Arcillas, whom he both knocked out.
Kwong is 5-9 with five knockouts, while Luangphon is 11-0-1 with 10 knockouts. / EKA
