FAMILIES of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) staying at the Cebu City Jail are given a chance to send their gifts to their loved ones inside the jail.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella said authorities of the city jail will set up a booth at Fuente Osmeña Circle to accept the gifts for the PDLs on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, and Wednesday, December 30.

Labella said families of PDLs have to follow the odd and even scheme of their respective quarantine passes.

Families holding quarantine passes with codes ending with even numbers (2, 4, 6, 8, 0) are scheduled to bring their gifts to Fuente Osmeña on Tuesday, while on Wednesday, those who have quarantine passes with odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9).

Labella said they can go to Fuente Osmeña starting at 9 a.m.

He said there will be a thorough inspection of the gifts before jail officers will accept them to ensure no contraband are hidden in the gifts.

The city jail prohibited the acceptance of any goods outside the jail facility when there was a surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases inside the facility.

Labella said to give a chance for families who have been requesting him and “for humanitarian reasons,” he will temporarily allow the acceptance of the gifts. (JJL)
