CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella, who is currently on leave, dropped by the Cebu City Hall on Friday, September 3, 2021.
Lawyer Joan Quiñanola of the City Mayor's Office, in a press conference on September 2, said Labella is on personal leave.
"Mayor Labella's leave is personal leave. For the details of that, we are not informed yet," said Quiñanola.
On September 3, the Public Information Office (PIO) posted a photo of Labella, who dropped by the City Hall executive building.
The photo showed the mayor inside his vehicle. Also in the photo are City Administrator Floro Casas Jr. and Chief of Staff of the Mayor's Office Mary Rose Lubino.
In Memorandum 2021-408 dated September 1, the mayor appointed Vice Mayor Michael Rama to be the acting mayor for five days.
"Pursuant to the rules of succession as provided for under Republic Act 7160, also known as the Local Government Code of 1991, and under relevant jurisprudence on this matter, you are hereby directed to exercise the powers and perform the duties of the mayor of the City of Cebu from September 2-7, 2021 in a temporary/acting capacity," the memorandum stated.
It did not state the reason for the mayor's absence. (JJL)
