Labella plans to use radio for distance learning

CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella plans to use the radio system to provide academic instructions to students, especially those living in far-flung areas.

Labella said some parents have difficulty in helping their children with the class modules, thus, it would be better to assist them through academic instructions using radio.

Labella will tap the different radio stations in the city and negotiate with them to materialize the plan.

In the proposed setup, the teacher will do the discussion inside the radio booth.

Labella said it can also be interactive by letting the students send their questions to the teacher through a text message.

He will present his plan to the Local School Board (LSB) that will be tasked to study on how to go about it.

Labella said the radio would be a great help, considering it has a wide reach and is accessible by many, especially those who do not have internet connection.

Labella admitted it is “not a perfect solution,” but it can help the students somehow.

He also said radio is much less expensive than any other gadget.
