AT LEAST 11,600 job vacancies for local and overseas positions have so far been available for the job fairs in Central Visayas this Labor Day on Sunday, May 1, 2022.

Luchel Taniza, spokesperson of the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DOLE 7), told Sunstar Cebu that about 4,673 positions are needed for local employment alone in the region while more than 7,000 for overseas employment as of Friday, May 29.

Taniza said DOLE 7 is set to conduct job fairs at the Trade Hall in SM City Cebu and Lamberto Macias Sports Complex in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental as part of their activities on the Labor Day.

She said they need about 755 customer service representatives, 500 sewing operators, and about 300 skilled workers each for masonry and carpentry to fill in the local vacancies.

Taniza, on the other hand, said more than 400 nurses, 300 auditors, 240 carpenters, and 200 welders, among others, are needed abroad.

For those who want to take advantage of this, Taniza said they highly encourage job seekers to bring with them their updated resume or bio-data.

The spokesperson, however, clarified that applicants are no longer required to present their vaccination cards during the job fair unlike from the previous job fairs that they conducted amid the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

But they should strictly follow the minimum public health standards such as wearing of face masks and social distancing.

Apart from that, they are also encouraged to bring their own ballpen and sanitizer or disinfectant to avoid possible transmission of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Taniza said there will also be a DOLE clinic at the venue in SM City Cebu, which will be participated by other government agencies, to answer queries from applicants and other individuals.

She further said that government agencies will also offer their services at the government express center at the second level of the mall.

The agencies include the Department of Trade and Industry, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Statistics Authority, Social Security System, Pag-Ibig, PhilHealth, Professional Regulation Commission, Philippine Postal Corporation, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

These are just among the programs that DOLE 7 is set to conduct, according to Taniza, adding that the job fairs are expected to start by around 8 a.m. and will end at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Taniza advised the applicants to register themselves ahead online before heading to the venue for their convenience. (MKG)
