Lapu-Lapu business owners, PUV drivers soon to accept digital payment

BUSINESS establishments in Lapu-Lapu City are now mandated to maintain and make available to their customers the option of paying through a digital or alternative mode of payment.

This, after the City Council approved in the final reading “an ordinance Implementing the Paleng-QR PH Program in the City of Lapu-Lapu and for other purposes thereof” during its regular session on Friday, October 7, 2022.

Under the ordinance, business owners, including market vendors, community shopkeepers and tricycle drivers, are mandated to maintain and make available to their patrons, customers, buyers, passengers and clients the option of paying through digital or alternative mode of payment.

“The business establishments and the public utility vehicles and operators shall have the discretion of choosing the financial services provider they will utilize for the implementation of this program,” according to the ordinance.

The ordinance, authored by City Councilor Annabeth Cuizon and Climaco Tatoy Jr., clarified that cash payments are still acceptable. (MKG, PJB)
