Lapu-Lapu City returns after 7-year hiatus

LAPU-LAPU City will make a comeback after a seven-year absence at the Sinulog sa Kabataan, which will take place on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, in Cebu City.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan confirmed their participation in an interview with Superbalita Cebu.

Chan said the City wants to show its gratitude and pay tribute to the Holy Child or Señor Sto. Niño.

The Lapu-Lapu City contingent will be composed of pupils from the Pajo Elementary School. The school had served as the City’s representative in past Sinulog sa Kabataan. The contingent will have 465 dancers and propmen, Chan said.

Chan hopes the participants will wow the audience.

Lapu-Lapu City will also join the Sinulog Grand Parade on Sunday, Jan. 19, he said.

“We really support our contingents. There are some proven entities that are helping our contingents. We will pray for a victory since in our previous participation, we were a consistent winner,”

he said.

Lapu-Lapu City was champion in the Sinulog sa Kabataan in 2009 and 2010. The City stopped joining in 2013 due to budget limitations.

The Sinulog sa Kabataan is held on the weekend before the solemn procession and Sinulog grand parade, and is exclusively participated in by public elementary and secondary schools in Cebu. (GCM / RSR)
