Lapu police to inspect firecracker manufacturers soon

THE Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO) will soon conduct its own inspections on the manufacturing of firecrackers and pyrotechnics as the holiday season draws near.

Police Colonel Elmer Lim, LLCPO director, said this is their way of support to the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas that was tasked to conduct the inspection.

Lim said they will check the area where they manufacture the firecrackers and pyrotechnics considering that others usually made such products at home.

Apart from the inspection of license, Lim said they will also see to it that minors are not involved in the manufacturing of the products for their safety.

He said manufacturers who are minors are usually the cause of untoward incidents.

“We will also play our role, we will also implement our own inspection in coordination with the regional office,” he said, adding that there are also illegal manufacturers particularly in Barangay Babag.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Rene Kyamko, deputy city director for operations, said they conducted a joint inspection with the regional office in October this year.

Kyamko noted that some manufacturers reportedly made contracts with other illegal manufacturers, which is why they are set to revisit the area anytime soon.

He said they also made sure that the manufacturing areas or facilities are far from houses and that these should be near to waters. (MKG)
