17 Sep – Lav Diaz has recently won another international award, this time at the Venice Film Festival.
As reported on Rappler, the Filipino filmmaker was announced to be the recipient of the Orizzonti Award for Best Director for his film, "Lahi, Hayop" ("Genus Pan") by the festival on 12 September.
The Orizzonti section is described as an international competition dedicated to films that represent the latest aesthetic and expressive trends in international cinemas in the festival.
Although Diaz was unable to fly to Venice to accept his award due to the pandemic, he did send a video message to thank the festival, saying, "Long live cinema."
The film, which was directed, produced, and written by Diaz, was described as "a look at how much human beings are like animals". It stars Bart Guingona, DMs Boongaling, Nanding Josef, Hazel Orencio, Joel Saracho, and Noel Sto. Domingo.
