Legendary banquet menus brought back to life by French star chefs

Throughout May and June of this year, at 11 different French restaurants run by young Michelin-starred chefs, customers will get a chance to relish authentic opulent meals originally served at two royal banquets at the start of the 20th century. Prestigious champagne producer G.H. MUMM is continuing its "Legendary Menus" series this year, in which Princess Sissi (Empress Elisabeth of Austria, 1837-1898) and Queen Elizabeth II will have pride of place.

The first meal will reconstruct the repast served in 1911 to celebrate the anniversary of Sissi's wedding with Emperor Franz-Joseph I. The second will be an homage to the feast created in honor of King George VI of England and Queen Elizabeth in 1938 at Versailles.

On the first Legendary Menu, the guests will be savoring turkey à la Masséna, accompanied by a subtle combination of artichoke hearts and beef marrow. As for the champagne, a Blanc de Blancs Mumm de Cramant will be served with this royal repast.

At the second banquet, three desserts, including Montreuil peaches, will be accompanied with a 1911 vintage G.H. MUMM Cordon Rouge.

Eleven young Michelin-starred chefs from across France have signed on to revive these historic feasts. Yohann Chapuis (Burgundy), Philippe Guérin assisted by the multi-starred and widely-renowned Georges Blanc (Saint Tropez), as well as Hervé Rodriguez (Ile-de-France) and Loïc Villemin (Lorraine) will be presenting their renditions of the Legendary Menus at their respective restaurants in May and June.

Last year G.H. MUMM asked the great chefs to reenact the Legendary Menus served aboard the Orient Express, the Concorde and the cruise ships "France" and "Normandie."
