Legislative, executive departments of Cebu City to discuss tax rate hike, 2023 budget on Dec. 10

THE legislative and executive departments of the Cebu City Government will hold a bicameral conference to achieve a common ground on the proposed tax increase and P50-billion budget for 2023.

Councilor Noel Wenceslao told SunStar Cebu on Thursday, December 8, 2022, that the meeting between the two branches hopes to yield a united direction amid the council’s ongoing public hearing for the tax code revision and next year’s funds.

Wenceslao, who chairs the committee on budget and finance, said the conference is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 10.

The bicameral meeting will be participated by all city councilors, members of the Local Finance Committee, Mayor Michael Rama and other officials from the executive department.

Last Monday, December 5, the City Council started the public hearing for the proposed P50-billion budget.

According to Wenceslao, the council has already deliberated five offices so far.

Wenceslao admitted that the public hearing is running at a slow pace since members of the council have plenty of questions and clarifications for resource speakers from different offices. (IRT)
