A bullet grazed the arm of a 17-year-old girl while she was praying in her room — and that prayer possibly saved her life. While she was kneeling, the bullet just missed the back of the teen’s head.
Kimberly Mendoza told ABC 13 that she had just knelt down for her nightly prayer in her Texas home when she felt something on her arm — but she didn’t realize at first what had happened.
According to police, the bullet had entered through the wall behind her, which grazed the arm that she had laid across her bed while praying. Mendoza said she was praying to God for strength when she heard a noise like a “bomb,” which startled her. She immediately ran to her father.
When asked how she felt about the bullet coming so close to possibly ending her life, she said, “I feel great. I know God is so great. He takes care of me. I know God is a judge, and I know he is going to do something for me — and he takes care of me. I’m so thankful. I know my faith, everybody can laugh about me … but I feel good because God is so important for me. I love God. And I know if I die, I’m good because I know I can go to heaven with him. I know he’ll take care of my family.”
According to ABC13, deputies say that the bullet was fired from an apartment complex near the family’s home. No arrests have been made.
Despite the terrifying incident, the teen says that her belief in God remains. “I am 17 years old, and God showed me so many things,” she said. “He takes care of me always. And I know he chose me for something great.”
