LILOAN Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco has launched a program which will provide employment assistance and economic benefit for her constituents who have lost their jobs as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The “Liloan Works Program” aims to provide “Cash for work and Food for work” employment options for affected residents of the northern Cebu town.
In her Facebook page, Frasco said she created the program for her constituents who were severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Frasco said they will utilize an appropriated amount from the town’s coffers which will serve to fund the program while they are awaiting the national government’s assistance for her affected constituents.
“Our local government will help and at the same time, we give people the opportunity to help themselves, and to reclaim unto their lives the dignity of work,” Frasco added.
Beneficiaries of the program will be assigned by the municipal government to various jobs including urban farming and the cleaning of streets, rivers or shorelines; planting of mangroves, fruit and forest trees; and other environmental endeavors.
Persons who can qualify for the program should be residents of the town for at least six months prior to July 2020.
Those who wish to apply for cash for work must be a registered voter of the municipality or those unemployed due to retrenchment and shutdown of business due to the pandemic or the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
Self-employed residents whose livelihood was affected due to the pandemic may apply.
Even drivers of habal-habal, tricycles and public utility vans whose work was placed on hold because of the ongoing community quarantine are welcome to avail themselves of the program.
Applicants must be between 21 and 60 years old.
The applicant or his household must not be qualified for any financial assistance from any national government agency.
The applicants must not be immunocompromised and must not have any symptoms or be positive of Covid-19.
Frasco said only one applicant is allowed per household.
Applicants can download the application form posted in Frasco’s official FB page and email it with their proof of residency, certificate of eligibility issued by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and any government-issued ID. (KFD)
