Liquor ban to be implemented for 2022 Bar exams

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama has released an executive order (EO) prohibiting drinking of intoxicating liquor in areas within the 100-meter radius of Bar exam venues.

The Bar exams will be held at the University of Cebu (UC) Banilad campus and University of San Carlos (USC) main on November 9, 13, 16 and 20, 2022.

Police Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog, chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said the liquor ban will start at 12 a.m. of November 9 until the end of the Bar exams.

Under EO 14 of Rama, violators will be fined P1,000. Those who will refuse to pay the fine will have community service as penalty.

“Naay gipagawas nga order kining Executive Order Number 14, an order imposing the liquor ban in areas within 100-meter radius from the school na kung saan duon gaganapin ang bar examination,” said Dalogdog.

He said the liquor ban aims to prevent people from distracting the Bar examinees.

Aside from the liquor ban, the police also vowed earlier to implement the anti-noise ordinance of Cebu City.

The CCPO has already deployed around 102 personnel from the Mabolo Police Station and Waterfront Police Station to the Bar exam venues.

Aside from these 102 personnel, there will also be an augmentation team from the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas.

Around 1,672 people will take the Bar exams in the two testing centers. Of this number, 1,152 will take the tests at UC Banilad and 520 at the USC.

The police said earlier that they will put up assistance desks outside the schools to assist those who may have complaints or concerns. An ambulance will also be placed on standby. (AYB/LMY)
