The filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) was from October 1 to October 8, 2021. The COCs would then be screened by the Commission on Elections before the official candidates for election are announced.

Sheriff Abas, head of the Comelec, said that they are targeting to release the official list of candidates by mid-October.
