LPA off Palawan now TD Kiko

A low-pressure area off Palawan intensified into a tropical cyclone Monday afternoon, with state weather forecasters locally codenaming it Kiko.

In its 5 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said Tropical Depression Kiko was estimated at 280 km northwest of Puerto Princesa City or 320 km west of Coron in Palawan as of 4 p.m.

PAGASA said Tropical Depression Kiko packed maximum winds of 55 kph near the center and is moving west-northwest at 15 kph.

Citing forecast models, PAGASA said Kiko is projected to be 680 km west of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Tuesday
