MANILA, Philippines – The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on Thursday announced that the issuance fee for a Stored Value Ticket or Beep card will now cost P30.
“Please be informed that the Card Issuance Fee for Stored Value Tickets (Beep Card) will increase from P20.00 to P30.00 starting January 1, 2020,” the LRTA said in an advisory.
The LRTA explained the fee increase was pursuant to the concession agreement entered by the government and the tap-and-go transport system operator, AF Payments Inc.
“This is in compliance with Section 16.5.b of the Concession Agreement between the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and AF Payments Inc. (AFPI) regarding the Card Issuance Fee charged for Stored Value Tickets,” it said.
Beep cards are reloadable cards used for fare payments in Metro Manila’s Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and the Light Rail Transit (LRT). It is also used in paying fares on modern city buses, as well as for toll exits and in various retail establishments.
Beep cards were introduced to the public in 2015 in an aim to offer convenience and replace the magnetic card-based system used in fare payments.
