TWO additional district offices of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) will soon be operational in Cebu.

LTO-Central Visayas Director Victor Caindec said they are just awaiting formal information from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the agency's central office as to when would the offices in the towns of Liloan and Alcoy in Cebu operate.

Caindec made the announcement on Saturday, May 22, 2022, saying he could not contain the excitement considering that it has been about two and a half years working with Fifth District Representative Vincent Franco "Duke" Frasco and Second District Representative Wilfredo "Willy" Caminero, the sponsors of the bill, to make this happen.

"We're waiting for the formal information from DOTr and LTO. Di lang nako ma-contain akong excitement kay it has been about two and a half years working with our esteemed lawmakers to make sure that they are able to work together in getting the bill to be passed and signed by the President," he said.

Caindec said these will compliment the existing offices, including the extensions, as he noted that almost all LTO offices are always full with a lot of people trying to avail themselves of their services.

District offices will have their own budget and plantilla, wherein the resources will not be divided unlike the extension offices.

Apart from Cebu, the province of Bohol and Dumaguete City will also be getting licensing offices, as their proposal to create such has already been approved.

Caindec said they are ready to operate in Bohol, citing the office itself is already complete and they are just awaiting the installation of the computers.

Relative to the creation of such offices, Caindec said they already secured a certification from the chief of the New Registration Unit (NRU), although they have to audit the information and certification before making the announcement.

"We hope to put to rest the concerns of people that they are being told by their dealers nga moabot og six months. So May 11 and earlier have already been completed by LTO," he said, adding the premise of this is for the dealers to cover the registration of vehicles.

With this, the regional director said they are trying to accelerate the opening of additional NRU offices in Robinsons Galleria LTO and LTO Mandaue City District Office at JCentre mall to compliment the existing office in Subangdaku in Mandaue City.

Caindec said they will issue the detailed guidelines next week and send communications to the dealers for the said development.
