LTO tells vehicle owners: ‘Claim your plates now’

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 has issued a deadline to owners of four-wheel vehicles registered from January 2015 to December 2016: You have until April 30, 2020 to claim your

license plates at the City Wing of SM Seaside City Cebu.

A textline has been set up by the LTO 7 to allow the owners of the plates to message them before picking up their plates at the mall.

LTO 7 Director Victor Caindec said that of about 32,000 plates, only 1,931 had been claimed, while 30,000 are still with their office.

“LTO 7 is grateful to SM Seaside management for allowing us another 60 days to establish and operate the LTO Temporary Offsite Plate Distribution Office,” said Caindec.

He also disclosed that SM Seaside had initially given them only a week to set up the LTO Offsite Distribution Office. Later, the mall management let them extend for another two weeks until two months since many of the license plates have yet to be claimed.

About 476 personalized or special plates from January to December 2015, January to June 2016, and January to April 2017 can also be claimed at the mall.

To make sure that one’s plate is available, he must first message the LTO 7 textline at 0918-807-3520 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Offsite Distribution Office at SM Seaside is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To claim the license plate, owners must bring the following: Certificate of Registration (CR), latest Official Receipt (OR) of payment and a government-issued ID.

Non-owners may claim the plates provided they present a letter of authorization and a photocopy of the car owner’s ID.

Caindec also clarified that the LTO will not give these

license plates to the automobile dealers and that owners should claim these directly from the agency. (HBL / RSR)
