A Catholic school in Lucena City issued a statement yesterday saying that it does not support the action of one of its teachers, who became controversial for posting a meme showing President Rodrigo Duterte eating like a dog.
Diehard Duterte Supporters (DDS) have called out the teacher, named Laarni Villaluz, for posting the meme, which used the original photo of the president as he kissed the ground in Jolo, Sulu during his visit over the weekend. In the meme, the photo has been edited to show Duterte eating dog food from a basin, with a bag of Pedigree superimposed next to him.
As expected, the DDS did not find the post amusing, with at least one of them calling for the Department of Education to revoke Villaluz’s teaching license.
Villaluz has already apologized to the Department of Education for posting the meme and asked the DDS to “stop spreading hate” towards her employer.
Maryhill said in its statement that “it deeply regret[s]” the incident, and added that they found the teacher’s post “disrespectful and distasteful.”
“As a Catholic Marian institution, we reiterate our school’s commitment to promote and uphold our values – particularly the practice of Marian virtues such as humility, charity, and respect for persons. In line with the Catholic Church’s teachings, we work relentlessly to inculcate our employees and students the value of conducting their daily affairs with integrity and accordance with Christian moral principles,” the school added.
The institution said that it has started the “appropriate administrative action” in connection with Villaluz’s post.
