A MAGNITUDE 3.5 earthquake struck Cebu Friday morning, July 17, waking up people from several parts of the province.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake's epicenter was located six kilometers northeast of Minglanilla town in Cebu province.
The quake struck at 7:17 a.m. and had a depth of 15 kilometers.
Phivolcs said residents in Lapu-Lapu felt the tremor at Instrumental Intensity III in Lapu-Lapu City.
It was also felt in Cebu City, Mandaue, Consolacion, Cordova, City of San Fernando, and other areas in the province.
Lorelie Galido Butial commented on SunStar Cebu's post that she felt it, as it was very strong and reminded her of the 2013 tremor that struck Bohol.
"Kusog kaayo ang linog oi! Murag katong 2013 pero mas dali ra ni. Pareho kakisog jud," she said.
Another netizen, Angel May, said: "Reminds me of 2013 earthquake. May gane kadali ra."
Jay Jayne Spring Yup described the quake as "more noisy than shaky."
"Yes. Felt here in Cebu City. Kusug jd xia but kadali rasab. Keep safe all," said Baron Ogatis Febemie.
Jhazz Rian Abi, who was in Mandaue City, said he thought a big truck passed by. "Abi nko naa dako truck n agi kalit man kaau."
Dodds Marvin said: "Definitely. I immediately checked my FB and IG to see other posts from my friends who also woke up from the quake."
"Yes.. super... I thought I was dreaming... but it was real... My bed was moving... Allah protect us from danger," said Ali Channa.
While some people consider it as strong, Phivolcs said Friday morning's quake will not cause any damage.
It added that aftershocks are not expected. (LMY)
