CEBU City Councilor Prisca "Niña" Mabatid said that she will face the complaint filed against her by the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) for posting unverified reports on social media about three persons who died in a hospital due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Mabatid said it is a “lesson learned” for her not to post anything on social media about information she knows.
“It is a lesson that I should coordinate first to the concerned agency, like to the DOH (Department of Health), before posting,” Mabatid said.
Mabatid also denied that she let her lawyer face personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP), adding that no PNP personnel even went to her house.
She added that she respects the decision of the PNP and that it is only doing its job.
Earlier, Police Regional Office Central Visayas Director Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferroe has ordered an investigation on Mabatid about the unverified posts and has ordered the CCPO to conduct the inquiry.
Mabatid could be charged for unlawful publication and utterances, a violation of Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code, in relation to Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. (JJL with report from AYB)
