Director Darryl Yap last week announced casting details of his proposed period film about the last days of the Marcos family in the Palace, titled Maid In Malacañang.
Yap had earlier said that Viva Films had approved his pitch for the film, which the filmmaker described as depicting "The Last 72 Hours of the Marcoses inside the Palace through the eyes of one reliable source."
He announced the casting after the production was greenlit: actress-beauty queen Ruffa Gutierrez will play the role of Imelda Marcos.
Cristine Reyes and Ella Cruz will play Bongbong's sisters, Imee and Irene, respectively.
Karla Estrada, Elizabeth Oropesa and Beverly Salviejo will play three maids in the Palace, Yaya Santa, Manang Lucy, and Biday.
Former president Marcos Sr. was deposed in 1986 by the EDSA Revolution, upon which he and his family fled to the US in exile. The EDSA demonstrations in Manila occurred in February 1986, culminating on Feb 25 with the Marcoses' departure to Hawaii. The protests marked the end of Marcos's two-decade rule, during which he presided over a martial law regime in which thousands of people were detained, tortured, killed, or disappeared. Marcos and his wife Imelda reportedly stole billions from state coffers.
Content creator Darryl Yap has generated controversy with his previous works like Kape Chronicles and The Exorcism of Lenlen Rose.
Last week, the Quezon City council declared Yap as well as comedian Ai-Ai Delas Alas “persona non grata” for disrespecting the city’s official seal.
