Sara Duterte, vice presidential candidate and scion of the Dutertes, has called on Filipinos to help ensure a clean election on May 9.

The Davao City Mayor made the call on Thursday (April 21) after a caucus with local leaders and residents at JAM Compound in San Pedro, Laguna. “We are worried about election day and we always call on everyone to support an honest, orderly and peaceful elections for our country,” she told reporters.

Despite leading by more than 30 percentage points over their closest opponents in Pulse Asia’s March tracking survey, Duterte claimed that she and running mate, former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., are taking nothing for granted.

“We are always running scared even if we are 17 days away from election day,” said the 43-year-old, who added that she and her team are revisiting the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) area, Central Luzon and the Bicol region to reach out to more voters.

The legislature will reconvene on May 23, primarily to canvass the votes for president and vice president and declare the winners. President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo's term of office officially ends at noon on June 30.
