MANILA, Philippines – Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque commended the Office of the Ombudsman who requested the Sandiganbayan to order the re-arrest of former Palawan Governor Joel Reyes and cancel the bail for graft conviction due to the anomalous renewal of mining permits.
“That is how it should be! I commend the office of the Ombudsman for the order,” Roque said.
Anti-graft prosecutors requested the Sandiganbayan to order the re-arrest of Reyes to prevent the recurrence of Reyes’ escape to another country.
Reyes was captured in Thailand while facing murder charges for the killing of journalist and environmentalist Gerry Ortega.
Malacañang has mentioned that the government will take all legal measures to reverse the decision of the Court of Appeals to free Reyes. – UNTV News & Rescue
