A man has made shocking allegations against a Big Brother-style reality show in Serbia, claiming that his wife was drugged and raped in a bid to boost viewing figures.
Andrej Laharnar is ‘Couples’ contestant Mirela Lapanovic’s partner, and he was left stunned when explicit scenes showing Mirela having sex with fellow contestant Milutin Radosavljevic aired during one steamy episode.
Filmed in the Serbian capital of Belgrade, Andrej says that his wife was manipulated by the show’s production team and that they are now trying to cover up the rape.
He claimed: “If only they showed her the footage, she would be shocked and she would realise she was abused.
“The production is not allowing the contestants or the audience to talk about the terrible incident.
“They are trying to cover up the rape but the truth will come out.”
Andrej went on to claim in a candid interview that both Mirela and Milutin were pressured into pretending the sex was simulated for the cameras after the scenes had aired, with the concerned husband adding that drug use was “rife” within the TV show.
‘Couples’ sees complete strangers get ‘married’ to one another in front of the cameras before going on to see how long they can last as a newlywed couple.
They are filmed 24 hours a day, seven days a week in a Big Brother-style environment, and this is not the first time that the show has sparked controversy.
In fact, just last year ‘Couples’ hit the headlines when scenes that showed a ‘husband’ physically attack his ‘wife’ were aired.
When Zorica Dukic tried to intervene in partner Nenad Marinkovic-Gastoz’s discussion with other housemates, Nenad grabbed her by the face, put her in a headlock, threw her against the wall and even tried to stop her from breathing.
According to the Daily Mail, he shouted: “You are my girl! I will talk for you! Shut up, I said shut up.”
‘Couples’ have not commented on either shocking incident.
