A MAN who was walking along the roadside died after he was hit by a multicab whose driver accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, September 4, 2022, in Barangay Poblacion, Carmen town, northern Cebu.

Ruel Amad, a resident of Barangay Cogon West, Carmen town, northern Cebu, was brought to Danao City Provincial Hospital but expired later in the evening.

Police Master Sergeant Emil Rubilla of Carmen Police Station told SunStar Cebu that Janet Panorel, from Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City and driver of the multicab, stepped on the accelerator, instead of the brakes as she turned right to park her vehicle along the roadside, hitting Amad in the process.

Amad was dragged for several meters until the vehicle stopped after hitting an electric post, which, in turn, fell on a parked motorcycle.

"Wala daw siya magdahom. Nagtuo siya'g brake natumban, gasolinador man diay, misutoy ang multicab naigo ang biktima," Rubilla said.

(She said she didn't expect it. She thought it was the brakes that she stepped on and not the gas pedal, prompting the multicab to regain speed and hit the victim).

The female driver was put under the custody of Carmen police but was released morning of the following day after she promised to shoulder the burial expenses of the victim. (GPL, TPT)
