A 47-YEAR-OLD man was stabbed dead while sleeping around 3 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2022, in Sitio Batching, Barangay Cabadiangan, in the northern Cebu town of Compostela.

The victim who was separated from his wife was identified as Dante Mag-aso Villarubia, 47, of Barangay Kansi, Tuburan town in midwest Cebu.

The suspect, Albert Bautista, of legal age and a native of Batangas City, was arrested after the incident.

Bautista admitted to the crime, saying the victim was the reason why he and his wife would often engage in a quarrel.

Bautista said they started getting into quarrels after the victim introduced his wife to her fellow construction worker and since then, the two became lovers.

Lieutenant Andrew Rellanos, chief of Compostela Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that they suspected jealousy as the motive in the crime.

The suspect was positively identified by the 16-year-old son of the victim as the one responsible for the killing.

The son narrated to the police that his father was sleeping inside the bunk house when the suspect barged in and stabbed the victim several times.

The suspect, who was drunk at the time of the incident, allegedly got angry at the victim for acting as the bearer between his wife and her alleged paramour.

"Ang biktima mao daw ni tulay sa iyang asawa og kaubang construction worker nga nagka-uyab," Rellanos said.

(The victim was said to be the bearer of the suspect's wife and her fellow construction worker who became her lover.)

The suspect cited the victim as the reason why his relationship with his wife turned bitter.

The suspect said he himself had caught his wife's illicit affairs.

Bautista described the victim, who was his friend, as a traitor. (GPL, TPT)
