Man wanted for attempted homicide shot twice after firing at police

A WANTED man landed in the hospital after he engaged police authorities in a shootout in Purok 4, Barangay Sandayong, Danao City, Cebu last Tuesday night, January 10, 2023.

Jerson Arenas Montes, a 40-year-old resident of the area, started shooting at Lieutenant Colonel Mark Lester Eteroza of the Provincial Intelligence Unit and members of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit when they arrived around 6 p.m. to serve an arrest warrant against him.

The warrant was for an attempted homicide case filed against the accused. It was issued by Municipal Trial Court in Cities Judge Mae Lizbeth Avila Williams last Monday, January 9.

Bail was set at P10,000.

Police were able to neutralize Montes after the latter was shot twice in the leg. They handcuffed him and immediately brought him to the hospital for treatment.

Police recovered one 9mm pistol with three live bullets from Montes. They also found four empty shells from a 9mm pistol at the scene. (GPL, PJB)
