THE 65-year-old man and the 22- year-old woman who were found dead inside a hotel room in Cebu City Monday night, January 7, were lovers, said a family member.
The two -- identified as Ely Malagum and Danica Rose Erolya -- were found dead lying on the bed around 9 p.m. Monday. They bore gunshot wounds in their heads.
A relative of Erolya confirmed to SunStar Superbalita Cebu that Malagum was Erolya's boyfriend for four years, but the family is not aware of any conflict between the two.
Erolya, according to the relative who asked not to be named, was a single mother and was living with her parents in Tuburan, Cebu.
Malagum, on the other hand, was from Manila, but authorities found an identification card showing Talisay City, Cebu as his address.
The family of Erolya believed that Malagum first shot Erolya before killing himself.
The police also did not find any foul play in the incident, saying the door was also double locked from inside. They also found a Gloc 9mm pistol inside the room.
Senior Inspector Jomar Pomarejos, chief of Waterfront Police Station, said though that they will wait for the result of paraffin test to determine if Malagum or Erolya fired the gun.
The bodies of the couple were discovered after the hotel personnel decided to open the door with a master key after several knocks on the door and calls from the hotel lobby went unanswered.
The two reportedly checked in last January 5 and were supposed to check out January 7. (SunStar Philippines/With reports from AYB of Superbalita Cebu)
