IT WAS a display of force for Cebu’s triathletes in the 2020 Subic National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) as they snagged the podium spots on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
Karen Manayon led the way for the Cebuanos as she garnered her second straight gem in the girls’ sprint category. The Talisay City pride clocked in 1 hour, 9 minutes and 28 seconds in the 750-meter swim, 20K bike and 5K run race.
Lapu-Lapu City’s Moira Frances Erediano made it a 1-2 finish in the girls’ sprint as she crossed the finish line next to Manayon in 1:10:02. Gene Quiambao finished third with a time of 1:11:22.
Southeast Asian (SEA) Games silver medalist Andrew Kim Remolino of Talisay City finished second in the men’s elite race with a time of 1:56:48 behind eventual winner and SEA Games gold medalist John Chicano, who timed in 1:56:18.
The men’s elite race covered the standard distance—a 1.5K swim, a 40K bike and a 10K run. It was the run portion that spelled the difference in the elite race as Chicano clocked 34:56 in the final phase, while Remolino had 37:07.
Cebu’s Alfred Latrell Pacabis rounded up the top three elite after clocking in 1:59:32.
The Cebuanos extended their dominance in the lower division as Matthew Justine Hermosa conquered the super sprint race clocking in 33:42 to beat Dash Aron Ramirez and Jacob Kennedy Lipura who timed in 34:26 and 34:30, respectively. (RSC)
