Mandaue deploys mobile kitchen, security personnel for Sinulog sa Carmen contingent

THE Mandaue City Government has deployed its mobile kitchen to provide food for members of its contingent who will be performing on Sunday, January 22, 2023, for the Sinulog sa Carmen.

The city’s contingent left for Carmen, which is more than an hour drive from Mandaue, on Friday, January 20.

Mayor Jonas Cortes said they sent the mobile kitchen to ensure that the participants have food to eat.

"Full support ang atong gihatag ngadto sa atong Mandaue City Sinulog contingent nga anaa na karon didto sa lungsod sa Carmen para sa ipahigayon nga Sinulog sa Carmen," Cortes said in a Facebook post Friday.

Aside from the mobile kitchen, the City Government also sent policemen who would provide security for the performers.

"Atong gihatag ang atong siyento porsyento nga suporta sa atong contingent aron wala na silay laing huna hunaon kundili ang pagperform ug paghalad sa ilahang sayaw ngadto sa balaang bata," said the City Government.

The Mandaue City contingent withdrew its participation from the Sinulog Festival, which was held at the South Road Properties in Cebu City on January 15, 2023. The City earlier said that the contingent will instead perform in Carmen.

The withdrawal came as Mandaue supported Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s decision to pull out the province’s contingents from Cebu City’s Sinulog Festival due to the “muddy” state of the SRP, venue of the grand parade and ritual showdown.

The Sinulog sa Carmen, which will be held on Sunday, January 22, will have 27 contingents, including Mandaue’s.

Of the 27, 12 of which are from Carmen town, 10 are from Cebu Province (including Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu City), and five from Cebu City. Eight contingents will compete for the Sinulog-based category, and seven for the Free Interpretation category. (ANV/LMY)
