Mandaue’s seniors to get cash aid starting Dec. 12

THE second tranche of financial assistance for eligible senior citizens in Mandaue City worth P4,000 will be distributed on Dec. 12-14, 2022.

Mandaue City Councilor Jimmy Lumapas, who chairs the City Council’s committee on social services, made the disclosure on Nov. 30.

Lumapas said the physical cash payouts would be within the barangay gyms in the city. Others would receive it via cash card through LandBank automated teller machines.

But the distribution for bedridden seniors will still be done house-to-house.

Elderly residents getting the assistance via cash payout must bring one valid ID, together with their senior citizen’s ID.

Diosdado Suico, Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca)-Mandaue City head, said those who failed to claim their cash assistance within the respective distribution dates could go to the City Treasurer’s Office from Dec. 15 to 18 to get their cash.

Suico said there would be no extension dates right after Dec. 18.

In May this year, about 24,000 registered senior citizens in Mandaue received their first tranche of financial assistance of P4,000.

The distribution, which was supposed to be held in April, was delayed due to the election ban that prohibits local government units from spending public funds within 45 days before Election Day, from March 25 to May 8, 2022.

Lumapas, however, did not confirm if they would be giving additional cash on top of the P4,000 allowance. (HIC)
