Two Manila ordinances, signed by Mayor Isko Moreno, will provide P500 monthly allowance to Persons with Disability (PWD), seniors, students, and solo parents.

On Thursday, Moreno has signed two ordinances granting the release of a P500 monthly financial assistance for Grade 12 students of city government-run schools, senior citizens, persons with disability and solo parents.

Under Ordinance No. 8564, qualified Grade 12 students will receive P500 monthly allowance from the local government, provided that they have a good standing, must be a bonafide resident and registered voter in the City of Manila.

If the student is not of legal age to become a voter, his or her relatives should be a registered voter.

Students may still be disqualified from receiving the monthly allowance if they were dismissed from school.

Ordinance No. 8565, meanwhile, grants P500 monthly allowance to senior citizens, PWDs, and solo parents who are residents of Manila. Senior citizens must be a bonafide resident, registered voter and included in the master list of the Manila Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs.

For PWDs and solo parents, they also have to be bonafide residents, registered voters and included in the master list of the Manila Department of Social Welfare.

Moreno, meanwhile, said this is a first time an ordinance was passed in just three weeks.

“Sa buong buhay ko, bilang lokal na mambabatas ng Lungsod ng Maynila, sa loob ng 18 taon, ngayon lang ako nakarinig ng ordinansa na naipasa sa loob lamang ng tatlong linggo (In my time as a lawmaker in the City of Manila—for 18 years, this is the first time I heard that an ordinance was passed in just three weeks),” he said. —AAC
