President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was seen partying at the Manila Polo Club during the 50th birthday celebration of Senator Edgardo “Sonny” Angara Jr. last Saturday (August 6). This comes a day after the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) announced that the July 2022 inflation rate was at 6.4 percent.

The inflation rate is a general measure of prices in the market. 6.4 percent is the highest inflation rate in almost four years. Rice prices – which Marcos Jr promised to be P20 – also went up by 2.1 percent year-on-year in the first month of the new administration.

The president was seen singing “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin” on stage with Senators Angara, Jinggoy Estrada, JV Ejercito, Raffy Tulfo, Mark Villar, Miguel Zubiri, Sherwin Gatchalian, Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Koko Pimentel, Bong Go, Bato dela Rosa, among others.

Senator Tulfo reacted to critics as the video went viral. “Napaka-kill joy naman ‘yung mga nagsasabi niyan. Dapat inaalam din nila siguro ‘yung reason kung bakit, ano bang isa sa mga dahilan kung bakit kami nandu’n,” he said. “Una, tao naman kami, marunong din kami dapat mag-relax. Pangalawa, it was for a cause rin.

(Those who say that are kill joys. They should know why we’re there. First, we are only human, we should know when to relax. Second, it was for a cause.)

The party supposedly raised funds worth P5 million for the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Medical Foundation Inc., where Angara “donates yearly”, according to his Communications Director.
