Margot Osmeña to focus on improving city operations

·3 min read

BANDO Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) mayoral candidate Margot Osmeña said she will focus on "housekeeping" or improving the operations in Cebu City Hall if she wins in the May 2022 local elections.

Margot said her first step would be "good housekeeping," something she considers necessary for her to be able to start anything and let the rest of her priorities fall into place, if she is elected to be the next city mayor.

"I offer myself. This is really the right time. It was a consensus in the BOPK family," she said.

Among her priorities would be health programs and other services which she said are not being prioritized, like the Cebu City Hospitalization Assistance and Medicines Program that she described as "crippled."

The BOPK slate was in full force on Thursday morning, October 7, 2021, except for Mary Ann de los Santos, as the party's remaining aspirants filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) in the Commission on Elections Cebu City office.

On October 5, five electoral candidates under the BOPK banner filed their COCs.

They are Congress aspirant for Cebu City North District Rachel "Cutie" del Mar, Councilor Lea Japson (North District), vice mayoral aspirant Councilor Franklyn Ong, Councilor Raul Alcoseba (South District), and Councilor Joy Young (North District).

Voluntary

Incumbent Congressman for Cebu City South District Rodrigo "Bebot" Abellanosa, in a separate interview, said he will be very much involved in the campaign for their party in whatever capacity he can.

He said the gathering made by the Barug PDP-Laban candidates during its presentation of candidates on Tuesday, October 5, in a club hotel in the City was "no exception."

"Usa na sa kanunay nila nga gilapas, so dili maayo nga ehemplo. So maglisod sila pagpatuman kon sila mismo ang dili mutuman (That is one of that they always do, which is not a good example. They will find it difficult to enforce rules if they themselves cannot follow them)," he said.

Abellanosa, who was one of the expected mayoral candidates under the party before conceding to Margot Osmeña, said he "humbled myself because somebody has to do the supreme sacrifice."

"It's not all about nitalaw ta or nahadlok ta (frightened) kay, categorically, I was leading Mike Rama by at least 20 to 25 percent in the survey and syempre bag-o pa ta sa North, dunay mga sensitibo sa atoang papel, mao na nga kinahanglan mo campaign si Margot Osmeña (We are new in the North, there are those who are sensitive to our roles, which is why Margot Osmeña needs to campaign). I voluntarily gave way," he said.

He said what is important is that their party can deliver the message to the Cebuanos of the "need to save Cebu City now or never."
