After naming the director Chito S. Rono of the much-anticipated "Mars Ravelo’s Darna: The TV Series,” ABS-CBN has finally unveiled the full cast joining the adaptation of the iconic Filipino comic book.
Jane de Leon as Narda
After a round of auditions, Jane de Leon was ultimately chosen to portray the title role in 2019. She was handpicked for the role after actress Liza Soberano was forced to withdraw owing to health concerns. Liza, for her part, had been cast to replace Angel Locsin, who had also withdrawn from the role for the same reason. During the unveiling of cast members, Jane expressed her excitement to meet her co-stars in the project. “I’m so excited to meet all the cast here,” she said.
Joshua Garcia as Brian Samonte Robles
Heartthrob Joshua Garcia will play her leading man and love interest, Brian Samonte Robles, who is a policeman. We will know more about his character soon.
Iza Calzado as Leonor Custodio
Iza Calzado’s role in the upcoming series was first revealed in August. Iza recalled her Darna journey in an Instagram post that month.
Iza will be playing Leonor Custodio, the “first Darna,” a “prime warrior” from the fictional planet Marte who will become the mother of Ding and Narda.
Zaijian Jaranilla as Ding
Former child actor Zaijian Jaranilla will play Ricardo Custodio or Ding, Narda's brother and sidekick. “I’ll be the most awesome sidekick of Darna,” he said.
Rio Locsin as Roberta Ferrer Custodio
Rio Locsin, who played Darna in the 1979 film Bira, Darna, Bira, will also be part of the new adaptation.
Kiko Estrada as Noah Ballesteros
It seems Kiko Estrada will also be playing an important role in the series as the son’s mayor.
The actress who will play the role of Darna’s archnemesis Valentina has yet to be revealed, despite the fact that Mark Manicad had already been cast as Ali Corpus, her sidekick and boyfriend. We'll just have to keep an eye out for more updates.
Meanwhile, fans have made their own pitches for the role in a survey by Facebook page CinemaBravo.
Rounding up the powerhouse cast are Richard Quan, Simon Ibarra, Levi Ignacio, Joj Agpangan, Young JV, LA Santos, Yogo Singh, Zeppi Borromeo, Marvin Yap, Tart Carlos, and Gerald Acao.
The series will start filming in November. There's no word yet on when it will be released.
