Veteran forward Marvin Hayes has his work cut out for him with his role as playing team manager for Clarin Sto. Niño in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Mindanao Leg.
The ex-pro recently shared that being in charge of one whole team is no laughing matter.
“My job is hard,” the Jose Rizal University product said. “Every single player has a different personality and when they have problems, you have to talk to them.”
Aside from managing all the personalities, Hayes also has to perform on the floor and perform the 6-foot-2 banger did as he produced 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting clip, along with six boards and a steal in their 73-63 triumph over the MisOr Brew Authoritea on Thursday.
“I’m also one of the veterans on the team and along with the other ex-pros on this squad, we try to guide the other players as best as we possibly can,” said Hayes.
Despite the good showing, the 35-year-old Hayes said he is more on the mentoring stage of his career, putting Joseph Eriobu, Brent Palattao, and all their other big men under his guidance. Eriobu played solid basketball as the starting center, finishing with seven points and eight rebounds while Palattao grabbed nine caroms.
“I have several younger teammates. My time in the spotlight is done. This is their chance to prove themselves on the floor,” Hayes added. (JNP)
