Matt Damon: Politics is deceptive

Matt Damon finds it difficult to believe anything that politicians are saying.

The 42-year-old actor has been involved in a number of politically driven movies over the years such as Syriana and The Adjustment Bureau.

Matt has done plenty of research about politics in preparation for his films and he doesn’t find the field particularly appealing.

"I talked to a political consultant when I was doing The Adjustment Bureau. He was getting out of the business. He said that when he started out, you'd work for someone you believed in and you'd craft these messages,” Matt recalled to USA Today.

“It was all about the nuance. And then we figured out somewhere along the line that you throw s**t at the other candidate and it doesn't matter if it's true.

"I'm reading about [late US Senator] Bobby Kennedy a lot right now. He was running a campaign from his heart. That doesn't happen anymore. These guys are so over-coached. I've done media training before. I just ignore it. You sound like a politician. When I see a politician, I don't believe it anymore.”

Matt’s Good Will Hunting colleague and longtime friend Ben Affleck has recently discussed his interest in politics.

Like Ben, Matt is not at all concerned about establishing a political career.

"No, for a number of reasons. I love my job too much and don't want to do anything else,” he said.

“I love making movies. And also, I look at that world and I don't think I'm cut out for it. I don't think I'd enjoy it.”

Matt's new film Promised Land is released in US theatres this week.
