Mayor: Compostela Sports PH basketball league key to youth development

COMPOSTELA Mayor Felijur Quiño believes the involvement of the youth in sports is critical in their development, which is why he didn’t hesitate in giving the green light on the staging of the Compostela Sports PH basketball league which began last September 17.

“When Rio Morales and Marino Librero approached me, he and his co-founder asked if I can help in developing the talents of our youth through sports. I immediately agreed and listened to their plans and made arrangements for their event to happen,” said Quiño.

“I do believe that the development of our young ones is a step to a better world. I am an advocate of sportsmanship and camaraderie. The success of the league only shows the mutual respect and friendship with our neighboring municipalities in Kinto Distrito in which I am glad for it is one of my endeavors,” he added.

The tournament has three categories—under-16, under-21 and the open-age 6-feet-and-under. The under-16 has 18 teams while the under-21 has 14 teams. The open-age attracted 18 teams. Cash prizes await the champions of each age group.

Teams in the under-16 and under-21 will play a double round-robin, while the open-age squads will compete in a single round-robin.
